Crazy Feet

So I headed to the DR. this morning to get an update on my blood work and discuss my crappy ankle. Well blood work was stellar I am perfectly healthy. Thankfully, he heard my weight loss cry and has prescribed me an appetite suppressant. Just until I get down to a healthy weight for my height. I am excited to combine my workouts with new diet and a helpful pill.

So for the ankle he said to start with getting fitted for new "correct" running shoes and an anti-inflammatory. So now armed with a new pair of Saucony progrid stabil cs wides and a new holder for the nike+ I am ready to get back to running. I plan on taking it easy this week to let me ankle heal a little more and then hopefully another nice long run!!

Apparently, according to Peggy the nice lady at holidbird sports I roll my ankles inward. In addition because of my wide feet and the rolling ankles my feet give the image of having high arches when tested but actually roll inward so much they are flat. I love being weird. So I highly recommend that everyone get fitted for running shoes and go to holibird sports they really do have the BEST prices!!

8 mies

So Saturday was a great day. I finally met the BWI loopers at the NCR trail. After my usual 3 miles I decided to push myself and I did a full 8 miles. I was wogging for most of it but 8 miles is 8 miles.
The downside to the achievement is it really messed up my ankle. It has been weird since I began running but everything pointed to weak ankles. But this run really took its toll. So I've got it wrapped in a brace and I'm gonna talk to the doctor about it today. I'm also heading to Charm City Run at some point to check out my shoes and get some things figured out.

I signed up for the Celtic Solstice 5-miler yesterday. It is in December and I'm really looking forward to it. It might be my first real race depending on what the DR. says. I'd like to do the MC 10K but I'm afraid I am not fast enough to keep up quite yet, so we'll see.

Updates to follow.

Stupid Cold

Just when I get back into the swing of things I get knocked down by this crazy head cold. I think running might not be the best idea right now, boo!

I think I may have weak ankles. I'm going to talk to the doctor about it next week when I am there but when I run there is a tight kind of pain in the area of my left ankle. I might try ankle weights to see if that can strengthen them a bit, we will see how it goes.

My last run was 1.66 miles at 18 minutes per mile. Which is slightly because of my ankle starting to hurt about 3/4 of the way into it so I walked the last like 10 minutes. I really want to get up to 15 minutes a mile. I am way to much of an instant gratification kind of person.

I really am disliking my morning route. Hopefully when we move I can find a better route to take! I may head over to the college loop on wed and give running that a whirl but I don't really live in a trail type area. So I primarily run on the sidewalk which all readings and books say is a no no. Maybe I will go try the track at the college gym??

SLACKER!!

OMG, I am such a slacker this week. Vacation really knocked my routine for a loop. I'm am hopeful that a new job will present itself very soon so that I can sign up and participate in all of these races that I want to do. I need running goals!!

So far my fall 09 running plans are as follows (and anyone is welcome to join)

Oct 18 - Race for the Cure in hunt valley
Nov 8 - World Running Day ( this is everywhere)
Dec 19 - Celtic Solstice 5 Miler (Druid hill park, a sort of run through the zoo)

Hopefully, this will all get me ready for the big Disney run in March!!

I am also hopeful to start running with a ladies track run at Hopkins on Wed nights at 6:30. I would have gone tonight but when I walked out the door the sky opened up. Now running in the rain is something I would consider, but a monsoon is just not happening. If anyone else saw this you know what I am talking about. No one needs to be held down like that, lol.

My goal is to run 10 miles total by next Friday. I've been doing about 2 miles every other day. I really don't want to over do it and get all messed up. Slow and steady, until couch to 5K decides to kick it up a notch!

Back to it

So after cheating last week and only running once cause of vacation so this morning was rough. I got through it but my couch to 5K is picking up. So I need to stay motivated. I am hopeful to get to run the 5K in October with the Race for the Cure. Anna told me she started running as well!! Go get em!! Maybe you can fly in and join me in Oct!!

Hopefully everything will go well today and I can start to have a life again!!

More later!!

PS: I have all the codes for hotels and tickets in Disney. Amber and i are planning next week so if you are interested in being included in the trip in March let me know soon! Running is not required you are more than welcome to join Jon on the sidelines, lol!!

Disney Princess advice from Vicki

via facebook wall posts:

Victoria: Yes! Lots of glitter and pink and jewels! I think you should go all out- like get some pink underarmour
and go crazy- I will totally help if you want!

I doubt I will go that crazy. Although I've seen some of the pictures from last years race and people totally do that. But pink underarmour will definitely be necessary.

My new toys finally came in the mail. The spibelt is awesome!
It is just spandex on a band but you can really carry all kinds of things and when you run it totally doesn't bounce.

I'm up to around 2 miles now in the morning. It isn't totally running yet but I'm starting slow. Give my time I'm doing them in about 15 minutes. I am hopeful that by March I will be able to do a 10 minute mile. Now I just have to add 11 more miles to that and I'll be all set, lol.

My aunt actually told me today she was going to try to come down and watch and I quote "if you are going to actually run 13 miles I'll drive my ass down there to see it, no one in our family has ever run for anything but a doughnut, let alone run 13 miles to get a medal on a string." Lol I was laughing like crazy.

Alright, gotta get some sleep if I'm going to get up at 5:30 for my 6am run!!

week 1 workout 2

I finished the couch to 5K yesterday!! It is a small step but a big one. I wasn't too winded and I'm excited to do it again tomorrow.

I also officially joined disneyrunning.com.
So I am orange now. And the women have been awesome!! I also bought a tech shirt from the group. It's bright orange and it looks like this:

it says:

I'm starting to have some pain when running from my angle up my shin. I'm going easy on it and investigating what the cause might be. Most likely it is from going to no activity to running every other day. So maybe some ice after my runs might help it.

Toys

Ok so I'm waiting for some new toys to show up for my runs. I ordered a armband for my iphone to make it easier to run with. It still hasn't shown up. I found that ebay really has the best prices for that kind of stuff. However, if you are like me and only pay attention to the price and free shipping you won't realize until after you purchase that it is coming from Hong Kong and will take FOREVER to get here.

I also ordered a spibelt. This is a fun toy, visit the site if you are a runner. I am planning on buying some of these for my fav runners for christmas, lol. www.spibelt.com. Basically it is a belt to hold your cell and keys or money whatever you need when you run. But the cool thing about it is that it doesn't bounce. The people at disneyrunning.com recommended it and the videos prove it. I am looking forward to my helpful toys showing up soon!!

couch 2 5K

So i downloaded the iphone app "couch 2 5K". It is basically a program for people who do not exercise ever to prepare to run a 5K in 9 weeks. Which is great because  I really want to run the Race for the Cure on October 18th in the timed 5K so I can get an idea about disney.

This program kicked my ass!!

I basically warms you up for  5 minutes by walking and then this noise sounds and it says "run now" and you run for about 90 seconds, which doesn't seem long but it is, then you walk again. So it alternates you for the next 25 minutes of the workout. It's crazy!!

But I'm happy I did it. To be honest it is the best work out I've had even though I had to stop before the 30 minutes was up.  I think I'm on the right track!!

The start

So this all started with a need to have a goal. Not only in life but in my health. I've been trying to find something to get into sport-wise. Then the answer presented itself in the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon. So I convinced my friend Amber that she wanted to run it with me and now that we are registered we have to run. So March 7 2010, two people who have never run anything will go for the full 13!!

So this blog is just a motivator to keep me into the running, up to the big day eight months from now.

I've invested in some new running gear, a nike+ sensor (which is awesome), and a brand new running mix. I've also joined disneyrunning.com which has been a great resource.

I started training on July 3rd, 2009 and I hope to be ready by March 7, 2010!!

But stay tuned for all the training updates and hopefully small runs that occur!
